ROCK HILL S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team recorded its third shutout of the season following a 2-0 road with at Winthrop. The victory improves the Terriers' record to 4-3-1 on the season.
The Terriers got the offense rolling early, with
Ashley Grant recorded a shot two minutes into the match. Wofford got off six shots (one on goal) in the opening 10 minutes of play, compared to no shots in that span by the Eagles.
Wofford broke through for its first goal just shy of the 30-minute mark as
Haley McCaffrey found the back of the net off a pass from
Caileen Almeida. The Terriers had 13 shots in the first half, but the 1-0 lead held at the half.
It wasn't long in the second half before the Terriers struck again as Grant sent in a cross to the box, where
Ansley Elizalde headed the ball past the Eagle defense, giving Wofford the 2-0 lead with 30 minutes remaining in the match.
Caroline Doss and the Terrier defense remained unbreakable the rest of the match, limiting Winthrop to only one shot the entire second half.
