SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday morning in the Upstate Invitational. The women were 19
th overall and the men were 22
nd overall in the meet, which was run on a wet course at the Roger Milliken Research Center Park.
In the women's 5K race,
Becca Hinds was the top finished for Wofford at 19:18.4 for 99
th place. She was followed by
Alexus Atkins (19:18.6),
Mary Claire Ridgeway (19:24.1),
Ava Fowler (19:30.4) and
Kimber Keene (20:12.7) to round out the scorers.
Franny Tocco (20:15.4),
Camille Terracina (20:20.4),
Morgan Roberts (20:23.0),
Chloe Gilbert (20:24.9),
Kristen Hallman (21:10.0) and
Victoria Davis (22:01.4) also finished for Wofford.
The men's 8K competition followed and
Carson Archie was the top Terrier to finish in 26:41.2 for 121
st place overall.
Liam Jones (27:09.0),
James Moon (28:03.6), Nathan Hopkins (29:08.4), and
Jack Tillman (29:29.0) completed the scoring.
Dillon Shin (29:39.8),
James Blackwelder (30:42.4), and
Brendan Roper (31:05.7) completed the course as well.
The course will be the location of the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional in November, which brought a large number of top teams to the event. Furman was first in the women's race of 32 teams with 66 points, followed by Charleston Southern, Radford, College of Charleston and James Madison. The men's race of 27 teams was won by Charleston Southern with 32 points, with UNC Asheville, Virginia Tech, East Tennessee State and Mercer rounding out the top five.
Both the men's and women's teams will take a week off before the Southern Conference Championships on Friday, October 27, which is hosted by UNCG in Kernersville, N.C.
