KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2023 Southern Conference Championships on Friday morning at the Redmon Sports Complex. The women were seventh overall and the men were tenth, while
Becca Hinds was named to the All-Freshman Team.
The women's 5K race was held first and
Becca Hinds was 45
th overall to lead the Terriers with a time of 19:13.1. She was followed by
Mary Claire Ridgeway (19:13.7),
Ava Fowler (19:24.9),
Alexus Atkins (19:44.1) and
Morgan Roberts (20:02.9) to score points for Wofford.
Kimber Keene (20:14.0),
Camille Terracina (20:28.9),
Chloe Gilbert (20:30.6) and
Franny Tocco (20:50.3) also finished for Wofford.
In the men's 8K race,
Carson Archie was 48
th overall in 27:06.5 to cross the finish line first for Wofford. Also scoring were
Liam Jones (28:16.6),
James Moon (28:25.7), Nathan Hopkins (29:04.8) and
James Blackwelder (32:11.2).
With her selection to the All-Freshman Team,
Becca Hinds is the fifth in school history to earn the honor for the women's team and is the first since 2017 (Hannah Steelman).
Overall Furman was first in both the men's (21) and women's (20) races for the eleventh straight season. In the women's race, Samford (71), Chattanooga (75), Mercer (104), East Tennessee State (122), UNCG (185), Wofford (227), Western Carolina (230), VMI (238) and The Citadel (309) completed the field. Furman was followed in the men's race by East Tennessee State (47), Mercer (112), Chattanooga (133), Samford (145), Western Carolina (166), UNCG (168), VMI (184), The Citadel (237) and Wofford (307).
