ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Over two days at UNC Asheville's French Broad Invitational, the Wofford women's golf team concluded its fall schedule of action with a ninth-place result at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. The Terriers were led by
Maggie Jackson and
Bella Kent, both of whom scored 238 to tie for 32
nd.
Wofford opened with scores of 316 and 320 on the first day of action and concluded play with a 321 for the final round. With a score of 957, the Terriers placed in ninth in the 10-team field.
Lipscomb and Abilene Christian tied at 904 atop the tournament's leaderboard. Lipscomb ended day one ahead by two strokes, but the Wildcats were two strokes better on day two to pull level. However, Lipscomb would prevail as the tournament champions by winning the playoff hole.
With scores of 238 each,
Maggie Jackson and
Bella Kent both tied for 32
nd in the 54-player field to pace the Terriers. The junior Jackson was rather consistent throughout the event, scoring 79-80-79. The freshman Kent stumbled out of the gate with a first-round 82, but she recovered to shoot 78 in each of the final two rounds. The pair tallied four birdies each to tie for fifth most in the event.
The individual portion of the tournament was also close, coming down to a margin of only two strokes. Lipscomb's Mary Kate Smith earned low medalist honors with a 6-over 219 score.
Regina Parra tied for 36
th at only one stroke behind Jackson and Kent, scoring 239. Parra carded a 79 in both rounds on day one before an 81 in the final round.
Taylor Burch totaled 243 after scoring 77-83-83. With 21 pars, Burch led the team and tied for the sixth most in the field.
Lilli Horn rounds out the Wofford lineup in a tie for 45
th after carding 81-84-84 en route to a 249.
The event concludes Wofford's fall slate, which featured five events. After a break during the winter months, the Terriers will return to the course in the spring for the 2024 portion of the season.
