Wofford Runs Away from Brevard in Second Half

Spartanburg, S.C.- Five Terriers scored in double figures, Head Coach Dwight Perry got his first win with the interim tag removed and the Wofford Terriers men's basketball team cruised past Brevard College by an 85-68 margin on Monday night at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

Wofford and Brevard traded blows throughout the first half before junior guard Corey Tripp sparked a 7-0 run late in the half to put the Terriers on top 42-39 going into the break. A 16-4 run out of the intermission put the Terriers up 15 and never looked back.

Brevard would get it as close as seven, but Wofford closed the game on a 20-to-10 run over the final ten minutes of action to put away the Tornados 85-68.

Tripp matched a career high 19 points in the contest to lead the Terriers, including a stretch of scoring seven of the first 11 points in the second half and assisting on the other four points. The Medina, Ohio native finished his night 8-of-12 shooting for 19 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Junior center Kyler Filewich contributed all 12 of his points in the second half on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting highlighted by one sequence of catching an alley-oop from Corey Tripp to finish a fast break chance and another sequence of blocking a jumpshot on the perimeter, collecting the rebound and taking the ball coast-to-coast and finishing off the play with an and-one finish.

Freshmen Jeremy Lorenz and Quentin Meza made the most of their action off the bench, with the former tallying a double-double in his collegiate debut and the latter contributing eight points, six boards and three assists. For Lorenz, the double-double was made possible thanks to a team high five offensive rebounds. For Meza, all eight of his points came in the first half and tied for the team lead in the category at the break.

Rounding out the debuts, junior guard Dillon Bailey posted a team high plus/minus of plus-22 (meaning the Terriers were 22 points ahead of Brevard when Bailey was on the court). The junior also scored 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting and a team high four fouls drawn.

Wofford will remain at home when they face High Point in their next game on Saturday, November 11, before embarking on an eight-game stretch away from Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. Tip off for High Point is at 12 PM.
