CLEMSON, S.C. - In the season opener for the Wofford College women's lacrosse team, the Terriers made the trip to Clemson where they were defeated 23-1. The matchup at historic Riggs Field was the first game in school history for the Tigers.
The Tigers were able to open the scoring in the game quickly, as Hanna Hilcoff added two goals in the first 90 seconds.
Clemson would extend that lead to 10-0 as Gianna New added three goals, Emma Tilson, Chloe Willard, Marina Miller and Hilcoff each added one goal.
The lone Wofford goal on the day would come from
Olivia Abe at the 12:03 mark of the second quarter after a ground ball by
Barrett Rowe led to that possession. The goal from Abe was unassisted at the Terriers trailed 10-1 at that point. The Tigers would score the next 13 goals for the final margin.
Aislinn Washburn (0-1) received the loss as goalie for the Terriers, she saved 10 shots.
Emily Lamparter (1-0) picked up the win with three saves and one goal allowed. Krissy Kowalski would play most of the second half in net before being relieved by Ava Delyra for the final seven minutes.
Laura Montagna led the Terriers with three ground balls, while Bella Karstien led the Tigers with four.
