SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its selection for men's golf player of the week with Wofford's
Matthew Larkin garnering the award for competition from Feb. 15-21. The selection is made by the conference office.
Â
This is the first weekly honor of Larkin's career. He is the first Terrier men's golfer to earn the distinction since teammate
Cedric Otten took home the nod on April 13, 2022.
Â
"Larkin is one of the hardest workers I have coached," said head coach
Van Williams. "This may have been his first college win at the Mickey Mouse Intercollegiate, but it won't be his last!"
Â
Larkin topped the 91-player field at the Mickey Mouse Intercollegiate over three days for his first-career win. With a 205 11-under par score, Larkin carded 68-68-69 en route to the third-best score in relation to par in program history. The result is his third-career top five and sixth top 10. With 15 birdies, the senior tied for the most in the field. He claimed the win by three strokes over the second-place finisher, teammate
Harry Jones. Larkin became the first Terrier to earn a low medalist honor since Otten won the Wofford Invitational last April.
Â
Larkin's win aided in Wofford earning the team victory as well. The Terriers were the only program in the field to score under par with a 12-under 852, 22 strokes better than second-place IUPUI (874, 10-over).
Â
Larkin and the Terriers will be back in action from March 6-7 in Aiken, S.C. at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto, hosted by USC Aiken.
