Box Score DURHAM, N.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over North Carolina Central. The Terriers won the doubles point and then split the six singles matches to clinch the victory.
In doubles play,
Breda Brennan and Emely Sorensen had a 6-0 win at the #2 position. Catherin Blouin and
Brianna Wilbur then had a 6-3 win at the #3 position to earn the doubles point. At #1 doubles,
Georgia Fischer and
Lily Woods were leading but the match was unfinished.
During singles action,
Brianna Wilbur won 6-2, 6-3 at #3 singles and
Breda Brennan added a 6-3, 6-3 win at the # 2 position. The Eagles then had wins at #1 singles and #4 singles.
Catherine Blouin picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at the #6 position to clinch the match for the Terriers. The Eagles wrapped up the match with a win at #5 singles for the 4-3 final score.
"I am so proud of the fight the team showed today," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "We did a great job of being aggressive in doubles and grinding it out in singles. We really stayed mentally strong through the tough windy conditions we played in today. It was a complete team win!"
The Terriers (8-5) continue the road trip with a match against Radford on Sunday, March 12, that will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech. The next home match will be March 24 against East Tennessee State.
