Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Irvin and Krasinski Lead Women’s Lacrosse Past Akron 17-13

AKRON, Ohio – The Wofford women's lacrosse team traveled to Akron to take on the Zips on Tuesday afternoon at InfoCision Stadium and the Terriers used yet another second half comeback to pick up the 17-13 road win.

After trailing 7-6 at the halftime break, the Terriers used a 5-2 run in the third quarter to take a lead that they would hold the rest of the way.

Wofford (3-5) was led in scoring by Carley Irvin with four goals and Emma Krasinski with three goals. Leah Hurley, Ainsley Towle, Emma Stalteri and Olivia Abe each had a pair of goals. Abe also led the team with four assists and added five ground balls. Addison Witkowski added six ground balls and an assist.

Six Terriers scored in double digits on the day. Akron (1-7) was led by Jaelyn Clinkscales with six goals.

"We feel good about the distribution of goals today. There was a lot of unselfish play and looking for our teammates instead of taking it ourselves," head coach Jessie Aguglia said.

Wofford entered the second half down one goal, but Irvin evened the game up at seven in the first 75 seconds of the half. Akron responded with a goal to go up 8-7, but Irvin scored yet again to tie it up at eight.

After being down 9-8, Krasinski added two goals to put Wofford up 10-9. Hurley scored the Terriers 11th goal to put them up two at the end of three quarters. Fourth quarter goals from Towle, Hurley and Stalteri gave the Terriers a commanding 14-9 lead. The Zips scored two in a row to cut the deficit to only three with 9:36 left.

Krasinski added her fourth goal to put Wofford back up by four with 5:42 remaining. Late goals from Abe and Bankston extended the lead to a game-high of six before the Zips added two goals in the final ninety seconds to get the final score of 17-13.

Ella Smithers picked up the win after entering late in the first half. Aislinn Washburn had five saves and six goals in the first 27:41 of the game.

All three Terrier wins this season have come on second half comebacks.

"We do a good job as a team of looking to the next play," said Aguglia. "I think the first half wasn't our best and we were able to slow down a little and work at it one possession at a time and really had a strong third quarter both offensively and defensively."

Aguglia spoke on the importance of road wins, especially with conference play starting up. "Always nice to get a win, home or away. But we had a good attitude the whole trip and everyone was bought in for why we were there, and we accomplished what we set out to do."

Up Next
Wofford will now prepare for Big South play as they will travel to Clinton, S.C. next week to take on Presbyterian.
