KENNESAW, Ga. – On Friday and Saturday, the Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Don McGarey Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State. Highlights of the meet for Wofford included
Mary Claire Ridgeway winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the women winning the 4x100 meter relay and
Jasmine Jefferson setting a school record in the 400 meters.
During the track events on Friday,
Madeline McNinch was tenth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.86.
Kerrington Johnson went 1:02.27 in the 400-meter hurdles to take fourth place.
Grant Witherspoon was third in the men's 400-meter hurdles at 54.47. In the 1,500 meters,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was seventh overall at 4:50.78. The 5,000 meters ended the day's events, with
Camille Terracina (19:17.81) fourth and Becca Hind (19:45.79) tenth in the event.
Saturday's track events began with the 4x100 relay, which was won by the Wofford women with a time of 46.26. The men were fifth in the 4x100 at 42.23. In the 100-meter hurdles,
Kerrington Johnson was second in 13.76 and
Netanya Linares was third at 14.06.
Jasmine Jefferson ran the 400 meters in 55.46, which is a new school record as she was second overall.
Dahlia Cutler was fourth at 57.25.
Madeline McNinch was fifth in the 100 meters at 12.00 for the women and
Nevius Fisher was fifth for the men at 10.70.
Brooke Sayre added a seventh place in the 800 meters at 2:19.43, while in the 3,000-meter steeplechase
Mary Claire Ridgeway was first at 11:14.20 and
Morgan Roberts was fourth. To close out the day, the women's 4x400 relay was fifth at 3:51.47 and the men were fifth at 3:20.31.
In the field events on Friday and Saturday,
Jenna Reid was ninth in the hammer throw at 45.93 meters and third in the javelin at 39.86 meters.
Sebastian LaTorre was tenth in the men's javelin at 46.20 meters. In the long jump,
Netanya Linares was fifth for the women at 5.74 meters and
Nevius Fisher was fifth for the men at 7.19 meters, with
Christopher Sheppard ninth at 6.99 meters.
Tanner Henry was sixth in the high jump at 1.98 meters. In the discus,
Dani Emmen was tenth at 35.86 meters in the women's event and
Chase Edwards was tenth for the men at 41.91 meters.
Christopher Sheppard was eighth in the triple jump at 13.69 meters.
A total of thirteen schools competed in the meet including Kennesaw State, Bellarmine, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana State, Mercer, and Northern Kentucky. The women were third overall with 84 points and the men were sixth overall with 25 points.
After a week off, the team will next compete on April 7 and 8 and take part in both the Tennessee Relays and the Kennesaw State Invitational.
