CULLOWHEE, N.C. – On Friday, the Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University. Wofford had numerous top ten finishes, including event wins in the pole vault by
Olivia Burroughs,
JaKayla Campbell in the 100-meter hurdles,
Taylor Jennings-Ward in the women's 400 meters,
Zion Bennett in the men's 400 meters, and
Liam Jones in the men's 800 meters.
The field events began with
Olivia Burroughs winning the women's pole vault at 3.65 meters, while
Pamela Ann Pope was third at 3.05 meters. In the men's pole vault,
Joey Swick was fourth (4.30m) and
Christian Claytor was tenth (3.70m). In the men's long jump,
Patrick Green II was fifth (6.92m) and
Zico Bennett was sixth (6.91m).
Maggie Frana was eighth in the women's discus at 40.98 meters for a personal best and a school freshman record. Frana added a seventh place in the women's shot put at 11.97 meters, while
Olivia Bagg was tenth at 11.18 meters. Bagg added an eighth-place finish in the javelin at 31.21 meters.
Three Terriers finished in the top ten of the women's long jump, with
Olivia Bagg seventh (5.38m),
Andrea Landrum in eighth (5.37m), and
Isabelle DuChemin in tenth (5.22m).
William Brimm was eighth in the men's high jump at 1.80 meters. In the women's high jump,
Ava Cooper (fourth – 1.58m),
Olivia Bagg (sixth – 1.53m), and
Ne'Rya Vassell (ninth – 1.53m) were in the top ten. In the men's triple jump,
Patrick Green II was second at 14.42 meters, with
Andrea Landrum taking second place in the women's event at 11.92 meters.
The 4x100-meter relay opened the track events, with the women taking second place in 46.06.
Liam Jones had a personal best of 3:55.71 in the 1,500 meters to finish fifth. Four Terriers finished in the top six of the 100-meter hurdles, led by
JaKayla Campbell in first place at 13.53, with
Olivia Bagg in third (14.20),
Isabelle DuChemin in fifth (14.56), and
Ayla Pessoa-Rollins in sixth (14.78). In the women's 400 meters,
Taylor Jennings-Ward took first place in a personal best time of 54.46, while
Monic Green was third in 56.14 and
Sofia LaCorte was tenth in 58.03.
The men's 400 meters was won by
Zion Bennett in a time of 47.79, followed by
Thomas Stamper in second place at 48.70.
Ava Dennis was fourth in the women's 800 meters at 2:13.91 with
Sarah Turner tenth at 2:19.42. In the men's 800 meters,
Liam Jones edged out a win in 1:52.05. The women's 400-meter hurdles saw
JaKayla Campbell finish sixth at 1:06.38, and in the women's 200 meters
Taylor Jennings-Ward was third with a personal best 24.31.
Zion Bennett added a fifth-place finish in the men's 200 at 21.81. In the 4x400 relay, the women were second (3:49.10) and fourth (4:03.56). The 5,000 meters ended the meet, with
Ben Beucler finishing seventh in 15:27.14 for a personal best.
The meet was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday but was condensed to one day due to the weather. Schools competing included The Citadel, East Tennessee State, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina State, Tennessee Tech, UNC Asheville, and Western Carolina.
The Terriers will compete next at the 2026 Southern Conference Championship, held on May 11 and 12 at Western Carolina.
