ASHEVILLE, N.C. – On Friday and Saturday, the Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Asheville Bulldog Invitational hosted by UNC Asheville. Wofford had numerous top ten finishes and personal bests in the meet, including event wins in the triple jump by
Andrea Landrum, the 100-meter hurdles by
JaKayla Campbell, and the women's 4x400 meter relay team.
In the field events on Friday,
Ava Cooper took first place in the high jump at 1.58 meters, with
Ne'Rya Vassell third at 1.53 meters. Cooper added a first place in the women's long jump at 5.20 meters, with Ayla Pesso-Rollins fourth in a personal best of 5.05 meters and
Irene Pardo fifth at 5.05 meters.
Preston Kut was ninth in the men's long jump at 6.19 meters.
Maggie Frana was sixth in the women's hammer with a throw of 40.65 meters to set a personal best.
William Brimm was seventh in the men's high jump at 1.68 meters.
Gianna Ortiz took second place in the women's javelin at 38.07 meters, with
Olivia Burroughs tenth at 26.55 meters.
On the track on Friday, four Terriers placed in the top ten of the 100-meter hurdles, with
JaKayla Campbell first in 13.50, followed by
Irene Pardo in third (14.91),
Ayla Pessoa-Rollins in fifth (15.07), and
Tia Hall in ninth (15.91). In the 200 meters,
Taylor Jennings-Ward was seventh at 24.68 for the women and
Zion Bennett was sixth at 21.65 for the men. Four Terriers also placed in the top ten of the 1,500 meters, led by
Ava Dennis in fourth (4:55.02), with
Sarah Turner in sixth (4:48.02),
Taylor Battle in eighth (5:04.70), and
Jordyn Battle in tenth (5:10.44).
The field events on Saturday began with the Terriers taking three of the top ten spots in the women's discus, as
Maggie Frana was third (39.06 meters),
Gianna Ortiz was fifth (37.10 meters) and
Olivia Burroughs was eighth (35.54 meters).
Olivia Burroughs added a second place finish in the pole vault at 3.54 meters, while
Christian Claytor was tenth for the men in the event at 3.40 meters. In the women's shot put,
Maggie Frana was third at 12.56 meters and
Sadie Busbee was tenth at 10.18 meters.
Andrea Landrum took first place in the women's triple jump at 11.2 meters, with
Ava Cooper eighth at 10.45 meters.
Preston Kut was tenth in the men's triple jump at 13.36 meters.
During Saturday's track events,
Ne'Rya Vassell was third in the women's 400-meter hurdles at 1:09.44 and
Colson Knott was ninth in the men's event at 1:00.81. In the women's 100 meters,
Taylor Jennings-Ward was fifth with a personal best of 12.08 and
Ella Tennant was sixth with a 12.26.
Monic Green was fourth in the women's 400 meters at 57.06 and
Sofia LaCorte was seventh in 57.91. For the men in the 400 meters,
Zion Bennett was second in 43.38 and
Thomas Stamper was fourth in 48.95. In the women's 800meters,
Ava Dennis was second at 1:15.01,
Sarah Turner was fifth with a personal best of 2:16.36, and
Kristen Hallman was eighth at 2:19.07. In the 4x400 meter relay to end the day, the women were first at 3:52.77 and the men were fourth at 3:22.36.
The meet included over a dozen schools. In the scoring, the Wofford women were first with 146 points, ahead of West Georgia (129) and UNC Asheville (117). The men were tenth with 18 points.
In addition, three Terriers took part in the heptathlon at the Duke Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday.
Sherika Christie was second overall with a school-record 5,476 points, which included a first-place finish in the javelin and second place finishes in the shot put and long jump.
Olivia Bagg was tenth with a career-best 4,941 points and had a personal best time in the 200 meters.
Isabelle DuChemin was 17
th with a career-best 4,449 points.
The Terriers will compete next at the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 17 and 18 in Atlanta.
