GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wofford baseball team started strong with two first-inning runs Sunday afternoon, but UNCG bounced back to ultimately win the game, 6-3, and the series at UNCG Baseball Stadium. The Terriers drop to 33-14 (9-6 SoCon) while the Spartans improve to 21-26 (8-10 SoCon).

Wofford starter
Matthew Marchal (9-2) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings of work. He struck out three.
Lucas Mahlstedt tossed the final 4.2 innings, allowing no runs and just three hits with a pair of punchouts.

UNCG starter Jay Miller (2-6) claimed the win after pitching 5.1 innings with three runs (two earned) allowed on four hits and three walks. Luke Thomas (2) earned the save after pitching the final 3.2 innings with no runs and three hits allowed.

Dixon Black led the offensive efforts for the Terriers with three hits.
Ryan Galanie tallied two to join Black as the only two Wofford batters with multiple base knocks. Galanie added a walk to reach base three times. One of his hits was a double, and
Cameron Gill added one of his own, the lone Wofford extra-base hits. Black, Gill and
Brice Martinez each drove home a run in the contest.

The Terriers struck first in the first for a second-straight game.
Dixon Black provided an RBI single to begin things, and
Cameron Gill followed with a sacrifice fly to make the early score 2-0.

But UNCG responded in the bottom of the second with a five-run inning. The Spartans held a 5-2 lead.

The Spartans added another run in the fourth after a wild pitch. The score was 6-2.

Wofford cut into the deficit with a run in the top of the sixth. With two runners on,
Brice Martinez put down a sacrifice bunt, and a misplay by the defense aided in
Ryan Galanie scoring. The Terriers trailed 6-3.

Pitching settled down for both teams from there, with neither side able to score a run over the final three frames of action. Unfortunately for the Terriers, this meant that UNCG stifled the Wofford comeback attempts and held on to win the game 6-3 and claim the series.

Wofford returns to action Tuesday night for its final midweek contest of the season. The Terriers travel to Atlanta, Ga. to battle Georgia State in the conclusion of Wofford's nine-game road trip. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
