BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Wofford women's golf team opened its 2023 fall campaign on the right note, scoring 877 to tie for fifth in the Elon Invitational. The Terriers were led by
Lilli Horn in a tie for eighth and freshman
Bella Kent's debut result, a tie for 14
th.
Wofford carded 290 and 291 on the two-round first day of play to sit in fifth entering the final round. With a 296, the Terriers secured their top-five result with an 877 total, tying Charleston Southern at 25-over par in the 15-team field. Radford totaled a score of 864 at 12-over to win the event by four strokes over UNCG and Elon, both of whom scored 868 at 16-over.
Sophomore
Lilli Horn topped the Terriers with a 217 at a career-best 4-over par. After carding 71 in each of the first two rounds, Horn added a 75 in the final round to secure her third-career top-10 finish in a tie for eighth in the 85-player field.
Radford's Macy Johnson scored 211 at 2-under par to claim low medalist honors by two strokes. Freshman
Bella Kent made her collegiate debut for the Terriers with her first-career top-20 result. After 74 in round one, Kent ended the first day with a 70 in the second round, the lowest single-round score of any Terrier in the event. After a 74 on day two, Kent checked in at a tie for 14
th with a 5-over 218.
Maggie Jackson carded 73-77-71 for a 221 score to just miss the top 20, tying for 26
th.
Taylor Burch (75-73-76) scored 224 to tie for 36
th.
Regina Parra made her Terrier debut, scoring 72-79-80 for a 231, tying for 54
th to round out the Wofford lineup.
Lindsey Hollis competed as an individual in the tournament, tying for 78
th with a 243 score.
The Terriers will return to action next week with the 2023 Golfweek Red Sky Challenge in Wolcott, Colorado. The three-day event runs from Monday, September 25 to Wednesday, September 27.
