Charleston, SC – Up by a single point with five seconds, Junior
Corey Tripp missed the front end of a one and one free-throw scenario but rebounded his miss and evaded The Citadel's defenders to run the clock to zero and clinch the 72-71 win for Wofford men's basketball.
Junior
Dillon Bailey scored seven of the Terriers' last eight points to put the team in the position to play from ahead down the stretch. The effort from Bailey was part of a 15-point, 6-for-8 shooting half (3-for-5 from three) that led all scorers in the closing frame. No stranger to explosive second halves, the junior notched his seventh second half this season in which he's scored double digits and the fourth such half he's scored 15+ (first double digit scoring second half since 13 points against Gardner-Webb on December 6, 2023). Adding in a made three-pointer in the first half and Bailey finished with a team leading 18 points.
In the first half it was a combination of sophomore
Anthony Arrington, Jr. and junior
Jackson Sivills leading the Terriers offensively- combining to shoot 6-for-7 from beyond the arc (The Citadel made seven three-pointers the entire game) to give the Terriers a ten-point advantage going into the break. Both Sivills and Arrington Jr. ended the game having set new career-highs- for Sivills it was in three-pointers (5-for-9) and for Arrington Jr. it was in points (13), rebounds (5), three-pointers (3-for-3), and field goals made (5-for-6).
Sivills joins
Dillon Bailey and sophomore
Chase Cormier as the only Terriers to his five plus three-pointer this season while Arrington Jr. has now grabbed three offensive boards in each of the past two games.
Junior
Kyler Filewich joined in setting new career-highs, dishing out six assists. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native entered the game seventh in the SoCon in assists in conference play, two behind teammate
Corey Tripp, and will end the day as high as fifth place. Tripp, also dishing out six assists, will end his day as high as tied for second since starting conference play.
