SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College has announced the 2024 football schedule, which features home games against William & Mary and Southern Conference foes The Citadel, Mercer, East Tennessee State and VMI. The final game of the season will be against the University of South Carolina.
The Terriers will begin the season with a visit to Gardner-Webb. The Runnin' Bulldogs were 7-5 last season and were defeated in the first round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs by Mercer. They welcome a new coach in 2024, Cris Reisert. Wofford will remain on the road with a trip to Richmond on September 7. The Spiders were 9-4 last season and won a first round NCAA FCS Playoff game over North Carolina Central before falling to Albany. The Terriers and Spiders last met in the 2007 NCAA FCS Playoffs.
William & Mary completes the home-and-home series with Wofford on September 14 when they travel to Spartanburg. Last season the Tribe defeated the Terriers 23-6 in Williamsburg on the way to a 6-5 overall record.
After an open date on September 21, the Terriers begin Southern Conference play on September 21 when Mercer travels to Spartanburg. The Bears were 9-4 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs, falling to eventual national champion South Dakota State. The Bears will be led by new head coach Mike Jacobs.
A trip to Western Carolina on October 5 will see the Terriers face a Catamount team that was 7-4 last season and finished ranked 23rd in the final FCS poll. On October 12, Wofford hosts VMI at Gibbs Stadium. The Keydets were 5-6 overall last season and picked up a 17-14 win over The Terriers. Wofford returns to the road on October 19 with a trip to Chattanooga. The Mocs were 8-5 last season and reached to the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
On October 26, Wofford is back home against East Tennessee State. The Bucs were 3-8 last season and will feature a new head coach in 2024 in Tre Lamb, who previously led Gardner-Webb to back-to-back conference titles. Wofford will then play back-to-back road games with visits to Samford (November 2) and Furman (November 9). The Bulldogs were 6-5 last season and have won nine straight in the series against the Terriers. Furman won the 2023 Southern Conference title with a 10-3 overall record, which included a 19-13 loss to Wofford in Spartanburg. The Paladins reached the NCAA FCS quarterfinals before falling to Montana.
The final home game of the regular season will see The Citadel visit Gibbs Stadium on November 16. Wofford downed the Bulldogs 11-8 last season in Charleston, giving the Terriers wins in six of the last eight meetings. The regular season ends on November 23 at South Carolina. The Gamecocks were 5-7 last season and the two teams first met in 1895. The last meeting was a 31-10 win by the Gamecocks in 2017.
