Rachael Rose Earns Student-Athlete of the Week Recognition

Junior guard honored for second time of the week behind on-court and classroom success

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its selection for student-athlete of the week for all competition from December 27 to January 2. Wofford's Rachael Rose is this week's recipient of the award, which honors success both athletically and academically. The selection is made by the league office.

This is Rose's second SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week honor, earning it earlier this season on December 20. She is only the second player in program history to win the award more than once, joining Alexis Tomlin who claimed the recognition three times during the 2021-22 campaign. Rose, a junior guard, earns this honor just a day after being tabbed as SoCon Player of the Week for the third week in a row and fifth time total this season.

"This award is so deserving for Rachael and makes me really happy and proud," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "It's easy to see how valuable she is on the court, but she also works extremely hard to be the best student she can be. It's the competition that drives her to be the best version of herself, and for that I am really appreciative of her. She's a great representative of Wofford College."

Between two games during the selection period at Georgia and at home against North Greenville, Rose averaged a double-double behind 17.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game. She totaled 35 points, 21 rebounds, 13 assists and four steals while committing only a single turnover. Rose shot over 50 percent from the field and 77 percent from distance at a 7-of-9 three-point clip.

Rose, a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, opened the week with her third-straight double-double behind 22 points and 12 rebounds at Georgia. She dished six assists and recorded a career-high six made threes as part of Wofford's 15 total treys to match its single-game program record. Returning home, she posted 13 points against North Greenville on New Year's Day and fell just short of another double-double with nine boards. Rose also dished seven assists to find herself in triple-double range while also swiping three steals.

Rose is a psychology major with a 3.86 GPA. To this point in the season, Rose leads the SoCon in assists (77), points per game (20.5), free throw percentage (88.1) and assist/turnover ratio (2.20).

The Terriers are out of action until next week when Southern Conference play begins. Wofford opens its league slate on the road at UNCG on Thursday, January 11. Tip-off against the Spartans is set for 7:00 p.m., and Wofford then travels to face Western Carolina two days later.
