GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team (5-10-2, 1-6-1) fell 4-0 to the Furman Paladins (8-5-3, 4-1-2) on Sunday afternoon at Stone Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina.
The Paladins jumped on the board early, scoring in just the third minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead over the Terriers. Wofford countered with a couple of strong shots from
Megan Childress and
Ellie Gower, but the Furman keeper was able to snatch both tries. The Paladins extended their lead to 3-0 with scores in the 23
rd and 36
th minutes.
The Terriers continued to attack on the offensive end, taking four more shots before the end of the half, but none found the back of the net. The team would head into the break trailing 3-0.
Furman stayed relentless on the offensive end, but the Wofford defense stood strong against the first five shots of the half. In the 71
st minute, however, the Paladins were able to score their first goal of the second half to take a 4-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining.
Ellie Gower found a nice chance to give the Terriers their first goal of the day in the 56
th minute, along with
Charlotte Simas in the 69
th minute, but once again the Furman keeper was able to deter both attempts.
Wofford will be back in action on Sunday, October 27, at Snyder Field to take on Mercer for the final game of the regular season. The Southern Conference Tournament will begin Tuesday, October 29.
