Â
The Terriers opened the match in control, leading 8-3 after three-straight kills from
Sarah MacLean,
Natalie Arnold and
Bradley Brown. Though the Spartans pulled back within two, but Wofford responded by winning six of the next seven points. This included a kill and ace by
Mary Emily Morgan alongside an ace from Brown. Wofford led 14-7, and UNCG began to chip away to pull within 15-11. But a MacLean error helped Wofford sideout, and it sparked a six-point Terrier run that MacLean was the star of with two kills and two blocks.
Bri Mahoney added an ace, and Rakoski also posted a block as Wofford led 21-11. The newfound hole proved too much for the Spartans to climb out of, as Brown's kill ended the set shortly thereafter in Wofford's favor, 25-17.
Â
Carrying the momentum into set two, Wofford won the first six points of the frame with Mahoney on the serve. She added an ace, and Rakoski posted a massive solo block. UNCG responded, however, with a five-point run of its own to pull within a point. The team traded points from there, and Wofford's 15-11 lead in the middle portions of the set was nixed by a four-point Spartan run. Tied at 18, Arnold posted a kill to push Wofford ahead. The Terriers would no relinquish this lead, as that kill turned into a six-point run with
Caroline Przystup on the serve. Arnold opened it with two kills, and after a UNCG error, Przystup sent home an ace. Mahoney followed with back-to-back kills for set point. Though the Spartans tallied a kill, Rakoski did the same in response to claim the set 25-19 for Wofford.
Â
On the back foot, UNCG fought back by opening set three with a 5-1 lead. But Wofford responded to pull level with four-straight points. Trading blows from there, Wofford pulled ahead 14-13 thanks to a Morgan kill. But the Spartans claimed back-to-back points to pull back in front 15-14. An error sided out for Wofford, and Morgan struck again to spark a five-point Terrier swing.
Maddy Frazier's ace punctuated the run with Wofford up 19-15. UNCG continued to fight, ultimately pulling within one point at 22-21, but Mahoney struck to provide some separation, and a Spartan error brought about match point. Though UNCG recorded a kill to stay alive, an error followed to end the match with a 25-22 set three win for Wofford.
