Macon, GA – Junior
Dillon Bailey scored all 17 of his points in the second half as Wofford men's basketball raced past Mercer 73-60 in Macon, Georgia.
Down 26-13 with 5:30 in the first, Wofford closed the half on a 13-5 run that started with junior
Kyler Filewich's first career three-pointer and was followed up by back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore
Anthony Arrington, Jr.. As a team the Terriers ended the half shooting 5-for-7 from the field and on the two misses collected offensive rebounds that led to junior
Jackson Sivills' bucket with 16 seconds left in the half.
Mercer pushed its lead to seven at the 18:31 mark before Wofford took control of the game with a 21-7 run spanning eight minutes and thirty-two seconds and saw Bailey hit the first of his five field goals in the half (5-for-6 FG, 3-for-4 3pt, 4-for-5 FT). Bailey's 17 points is his highest scoring second half of the season and the best second half scoring output by a Terrier since Sivills' 19 against Gardner-Webb on December 6, 2023.
A last gasp effort from Mercer came at the 5:55 mark when Jake Davis converted a four-point play to pull within two points, but Wofford responded with a 15-1 run to lead 71-55 with 64 seconds remaining and ultimately secure win number eight in the Southern Conference.
A win not only kept the Terriers tied for fourth in the conference (own the tiebreaker over Furman) but ensured the team can finish no lower than eighth after losses by both The Citadel and VMI. Wofford's win also earned the team the first five game winning streak by either school in the series.
Wofford returns to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium for a rematch with UNCG on Saturday, February 17, at 7 PM and can be seen on ESPN+.
