Spartanburg, SC – Behind 16 three-pointers and 36 points from the combination of junior
Dillon Bailey and sophomore
Chase Cormier, Wofford men's basketball soundly dispatched the Samford Bulldogs 91-69 to round out its home slate of games in conference play.
Wofford shot the ball extremely effectively in the second half, connecting on 65.5% of its attempts and drained 9-of-14 three-pointers to compile a lead as large as 39. Five different Terriers hit from deep including Cormier who shot 3-for-3, junior
Jackson Sivills who shot 2-for-3 and sophomore
Anthony Arrington, Jr. who also shot 2-for-3. Cormier entered the night shooting 63.6% from deep on Wednesdays and after his 4-for-6 night, bumped that percentage up to 64.1%.
However, just eclipsing Cormier in both three-pointers and points was
Dillon Bailey who scored a game-high 20 points and connected on a game-high five three-pointers. For Bailey, the 20-point outing was his first since back on December 9, 2023, against Coastal Carolina. And just like in that game, Bailey scored 15 first half points- which tied Bailey with himself for the most points scored by a Terrier in the first half of a game this season.
While tonight's victory is the third time Wofford has hit 15+ three-pointers, it also is only the third time Samford has conceded 15+ threes this season, with two of those instances coming at the hands of the Wofford Terriers. And with a 51.6% game shooting percentage from beyond the arc, Wofford is the first team to shoot over 50% from deep against Samford since the Terriers shot 51.5% at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham on January 31, (Samford entered the game only allowing opponents to shoot 25.6% from three in the month of February).
The 22-point victory also represents Wofford's largest margin of victory over a SoCon foe since defeating Samford by 23 points (87-64) on January 12, 2022. Conversely, Samford was handed its worst conference loss since that same game (and its first 20+ loss period since back on opening night against Purdue).
Sitting 9-8 in the standings, Wofford will go for win number ten on Saturday, March 2, in the regular season finale at VMI. A Terrier win would give them 10+ SoCon wins in eight of the past ten seasons (and three of the past four). Tip off from Cameron Hall in Lexington, Virginia, is slated for 1 PM and can be seen on ESPN+.
