TAMPA, Fla. – On Friday and Saturday, the Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the South Florida Invitational held at the USF Track and Field Stadium. The Terriers had numerous top ten finishes in the meet with three school records officially broken.
At the South Florida Invitational on Friday during the men's events,
Sebastian LaTorre was fourth in the javelin at 52.98 meters and Jacob Ritchie was sixth at 51.56 meters.
Chase Edwards was ninth in the shot put at 14.38 meters and he was second in the discus at 50.21 meters.
Nevius Fisher was eighth in the 100 meters at 10.41 to set a new school record, while
Cameron Dalton was ninth in the 200 meters as set a school record in 21.04. Both marks were wind-aided as it was over the 2.0 m/s threshold and therefore not official. The 4x100 relay was seventh with a time of 41.72 and the 4x400 relay was ninth at 3:23.37.
The women's events in Tampa took place on Saturday.
Ellie Sawicki was ninth as she threw the shot 13.27 meters to surpass her previous school record. Sawicki added a school record in the discus at 40.14 meters to place ninth.
Jasmine Jefferson added a school record in the 400 meters with a time of 53.13 that was good for third place. In the 100 meters,
Madeline McNinch was tenth (11.75) and
Ella Tennant was 13
th overall (11.77).
Olivia Bagg was 14
th in the high jump at 1.60 meters.
Teams competing at the South Florida Invitational included Boston University, Connecticut, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Marshall, Murray State, Pittsburgh, Quinnipiac, Rutgers, and UAB.
In addition, several members of the team competed at the 2024 VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point.
Taylor Stingel was ninth in the javelin at 34.30 meters.
Will Berger (800m) and
Shane Olander (100m) posted season-bests in their events. The VertKlasse had over 30 teams competing.
The Terriers will compete next in the Asheville Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
