LEXINGTON, Ky. – On Saturday, Jasmine Jefferson from the Wofford College women's track and field team set a school record in the quarterfinals of the 400 meters at the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East preliminary competition held at the University of Kentucky.
 
Jefferson, a senior from Knoxville, Tennessee, advanced to the quarterfinals after a school-record time on Thursday in the first round. In the quarterfinals, she ran in the first of three heats in lane nine. She was seventh in the heat with a time of 52.73 that set a new school record. Overall, she was 19^th out of the 24 competitors.
 
The top twelve qualifiers out of the two regions (24 total) will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon. The top finisher was Aaliyah Butler of Georgia with a time of 50.30. Nine of the twelve qualifiers were from SEC schools.
 
Jefferson ends her Wofford career with school records in the indoor 200 meters, indoor 400 meters, and outdoor 400 meters. She earned a total of five individual SoCon titles (2024: 200m outdoor, 400m outdoor, 200m indoor, 400m indoor; 2023: 400m indoor)) and two relay titles. She was the 2024 SoCon Outdoor Female Most Outstanding Track Performer and the 2024 SoCon Indoor Most Outstanding Track Performer.
 
This was the sixth straight season that the Terriers have advanced at least one participant to the NCAA East Preliminary. Jefferson was the fifth student-athlete from the women's team to qualify. Cameron Dalton competed in the 200 meters on Wednesday evening to become the third from student-athlete from the men's team to qualify.
