SPARTANBURG, S.C. – During the third and final day of the 2024 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, the New York Yankees selected Wofford junior outfielder
Marshall Toole in the 15
th round with the 451
st overall pick.
Â
During the 2024 campaign, Toole set new single-season program records for triples (33), runs scored (83) and stolen bases (43). His triples and steals both ranked second nationally with the runs checking in at eighth. He added in a .375 batting average, fourth in the SoCon, with 64 RBI and 96 hits, also second in the league and one shy of a new program record. Toole capped the regular season with a First-Team All-SoCon recognition as the Terriers accumulated 42 wins while claiming the 2024 SoCon Tournament championship.
Â
"Over the course of three years as a Terrier, Marshall worked hard and developed himself into an all-conference player and now a draft pick," said head coach
J.J. Edwards. "He poured his heart and soul into this program and represented Wofford well both on and off the field. We are so happy for Marshall to see his hard work pay off and for him to realize this dream, and we are excited to see what his future holds."
Â
In three seasons with the Terriers, Toole hit .333 with 184 hits, 171 runs scored and 109 runs batted in. Those runs are enough to rank fifth all-time by a Terrier. His 11 total triples are already fourth most in Wofford history. Toole added 27 doubles and 11 home runs. He amassed 82 stolen bases in just three seasons, already enough to sit at fourth on the all-time Wofford leaderboard, just 13 behind
Jack Renwick's new career mark of 95.
Â
Toole opened his career with a SoCon All-Freshman Team nod in 2022 and elevated to a First-Team All-SoCon selection in 2024. He has twice been named to the SoCon All-Tournament Team, earning back-to-back representation in 2023 and 2024. Toole has been named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll all three years he has been a Terrier and earned a spot on the SoCon All-Academic Team in 2024.
Â
With the selection, Toole becomes the 19
th draft pick in Wofford baseball history and the first under Edwards. This marks back-to-back seasons with a Terrier selected in the draft after former teammate
Ryan Galanie was picked in the 13
th round by the Chicago White Sox last season. Toole is the first Terrier ever drafted by the Yankees.
