Spartanburg, S.C. – On Tuesday, August 6, the Wofford men's basketball team departed for its foreign tour in Egypt and Greece. The team returned to Spartanburg on Thursday, August 15.
Upon arriving in Cairo, Egypt, the Terriers' first stop, the team spent its first full day taking several tours. The group was able to view the Egyptian Museum and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
The second day in Cairo featured a guided tour of the Great Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx, which was highlighted by camel rides. Later that evening, the Terriers would visit Saqqara and Dahshur.
After another afternoon in Egypt, Wofford would head to the Cairo Airport for its next stop – Athens, Greece. The team was able to take several tours over the next few days, including a guided tour of The Acropolis and a private boat tour of the Saronic Gulf.
"The experience was amazing," said head coach
Dwight Perry. "The guys getting a chance to experience multiple cultures – being able to take in all that Egypt had to offer and getting to go to Greece was a once in a lifetime experience. I think our entire program was able to benefit."
While in Greece, Wofford matched up with Athens Select, a professional team located in Athens. The Terriers went on to win the exhibition game.
"It is always fun to win. We wanted to have fun and be healthy after the game, so it was great to accomplish both of those things. In the huddles our team was really vocal in talking amongst themselves and taking the necessary steps to win the game."
Wofford will have its first official day of practice on September 24. Monday, November 4, will be the season opener for the Terriers, as Erskine College comes to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
