Women’s Soccer Records Third-Straight Shutout in 0-0 Draw at USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -  The Wofford women's soccer team battled cross-town foe USC Upstate to a 0-0 draw on the road at County University Soccer Stadium on Saturday night. The Terriers kept the Spartans scoreless for their third-straight shutout – the first time the team has recorded three consecutive clean sheets since 2022.

Kate Markey started the night with a near-score in just the sixth minute of action, but the Spartan keeper was able to complete the save to keep the Terriers off the board. Elizabeth Navola stayed busy in the early-goings of the first half, earning three saves before the 20-minute mark.

The Terriers would continue to apply pressure on Upstate, with Megan Childress firing off two shots in the first 45 minutes. Despite four shots from both Markey and Childress, the Spartans would keep Wofford off the board. The game would head into the break with no damage done on either side, resulting in a 0-0 affair.

Wofford amped up the offensive intensity in the second half of action, sending off 15 shots, the most of any half this season. Delaney Minor threatened two times in the half, while Bailey Mullen jumped in on the action as well. Kate Markey and Charlotte Simas each saw an opportunity to call game, but Upstate denied both attempts.

The Spartans found one more clean look at the goal before the end of the night, but Navola snatched up the opportunity for her fourth save of the game. The Terriers would go on to end the night with a hard-fought 0-0 draw – the first time the teams have tied since 2013.

Wofford finished the night with a season-high 19 shots, seven of which were on goal, while the Spartans totaled 14 shots, four on goal. Both teams ended the game with five corner kicks apiece.

The Terriers have now recorded their third consecutive shutout and have only allowed one goal in the last four games. Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Navola found her third game in a row with a clean sheet – the most clean sheets by a Wofford freshman goalkeeper since 2015.

Wofford will look ahead to its conference slate starting next week, with the first Southern Conference matchup scheduled for Thursday at Snyder Field against Chattanooga. Kick-off is set for 6:00 pm.
