SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford volleyball team defeated the Furman Paladins 3-0 on Saturday night inside of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Terriers improve to 9-8, 5-1, while Furman drops its second-straight conference game, now holding a record of 13-5, 4-2.
Chloe Smith paced the offensive attack, notching 16 kills at a .310 clip.
Bradley Brown followed behind with 10 kills and an astounding .563 hitting percentage.
Natalie Arnold had seven kills while
Annemarie Rakoski finished with five. Setting the rhythm for the offense was none other than the duo of
Taylor Pecht and
Maddy Frazier. Pecht tallied 21 assists along with 19 from Frazier. Frazier also finished with a match-high two service aces.
Laney Klika and
Caroline Przystup led the way for the defense, with Klika posting 15 digs and Przystup closing the night at 10.
Chloe Smith and
Taylor Pecht each recorded eight.
Annemarie Rakoski controlled things at the net, contributing to four blocks on the night – two of which were solo.
Bradley Brown also played a part, finishing with one solo block and three assists.
Chloe Smith tallied one solo rejection as well.

Laney Klika. "Without the block we can not set up a good dig. This win said a lot about our team tonight. Playing at home is always such an honor for us."
The Terriers finished the night hitting .316 while Furman was held to a .121 hitting percentage. The .121 percentage is the second lowest rate the Paladins have recorded all season. Wofford would total 45 kills compared to 35 by Furman. The Terriers won the battle of the serves, controlling five service aces to two by the Paladins. At the net, Wofford recorded nine blocks while Furman had five.
Set one saw the Paladins take a quick 4-1 lead, but Wofford was able to tie it up a few rallies later at 6-6. The Terriers would step on the gas pedal from there, scoring seven-straight points to gain an 11-6 advantage. Wofford would hold its lead firm after that, never letting Furman come closer than four points. After another Terrier run, Wofford extended its lead to eight points and ultimately took set one 25-18.
It was back-and-forth to start the second stanza with both teams trading leads. Furman finally found a little bit of breathing room after going up 7-5, but the Terriers bounced back with four consecutive points to regain the lead. The Paladins hung around, however, not letting Wofford contain the lead for long. A 7-1 run late into the set allowed the Terriers to break away and take set two 25-18.
Wofford jumped out to a comfortable 8-4 lead to begin set three which featured a nice dump from
Maddy Frazier. Despite Furman's best efforts, the Terriers controlled a sizeable lead for the rest of the set. The Terriers would take the final set 25-14 and find their second sweep of the weekend, 3-0.
Wofford will stay home next week as the team will see UNCG and ETSU come to town. The Terriers will take on the Spartans on Thursday, October 16, at 6:00 PM.
