Navola Earns SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced their weekly women's soccer honors Tuesday afternoon, with Wofford's Elizabeth Navola tabbed as the defensive player of the week for the first time this season. The selections are made by the league office.

Navola picked up her first player of the week selection this season and the second of her career. This is the team's first player of the week honor since Megan Childress was named offensive player of the week last season on September 24.

"I think it's much deserved, not only for this particular week," head coach Kevin Dempsey said.  "She's done a really good job in anchoring a defense that's only allowed one goal in the last five games. She's continued to work every day to get better and we're all super proud of her for getting this recognition."

Navola, a sophomore from Davidson, North Carolina, picked up a clean sheet in this week's regular season finale at Mercer in a 0-0 draw. In this match, Navola recorded a career-high of 17 saves and her third-straight shutout, sixth on the season, to secure the Terriers the No. 8 seed going into the Southern Conference Tournament.

A product of Christ the King, Navola has only allowed one goal in the past five games and sits with a 0.826 save percentage on the season, the second highest in the Southern Conference.

After this week's performance, Navola sits with a solid 1.04 goals against average, the fifth lowest in the conference. She is also ranked 22nd in the nation and second in the conference in total saves with 90.

"I'm super proud of her work ethic and coachability this year," assistant coach Stephen Lee said. "She gives it her 100% focus each game and I'm looking forward to more big-time performances from her going into the tournament."

The No. 8 Terriers will open the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament tonight against No. 9 The Citadel at 6 p.m. on Snyder Field, exclusively streaming on ESPN +.
