WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the season on Saturday at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off meet hosted at the JDL Fast Track. Wofford had numerous top ten finishes, including a first-place in the 400 meters by
Taylor Jennings-Ward.
The running events began with
Olivia Bagg recording a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.97 to place ninth, with
Ayla Pessoa-Rollins in tenth place in her first career meet.
Nigel Ransby added a personal best in the 60 meters at 6.88 to place eighth. Freshman
Emma Mills was seventh in the 60 meters with a time of 7.71. In the open 400 meters, freshman
Sofia LaCorte was third overall at 59.77, with
Ne'Rya Vassell eighth at 1:00.14.
Taylor Jennings-Ward took first place in the seeded 400 meters in a personal best time of 55.59.
Brooke Sayre took tenth place in the 400 meters at 2:23.46. In the relays, the women's 4x400 team was fourth in 3:54.77, and the men's 4x400 team was sixth in 3:22.71.
In the field events,
Andrew Botros was tenth in the men's pole vault, clearing 3.65 meters. Freshman
Maggie Frana was ninth in the shot put at 12.09 meters.
Olivia Burroughs was fifth in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.50 meters.
Ava Cooper and
Ne'Rya Vassell both finished in the top ten in the high jump, with Cooper fifth (1.54m) and Vassell eighth (1.54m).
Ellie Sawicki had a distance of 14.20 meters to place ninth in the weight throw.
Andrea Landrum was seventh in the triple jump at 11.42 meters for the women and
Patrick Green II was second in the high jump for the men at 14.70 meters to set a personal best.
After exams and the semester break, the Terriers will compete at the Tryon International Classic in Mill Spring, N.C. on January 16 and 17.
