LEXINGTON, Va. – On Saturday, the Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the VMI Winter Relays held at the Corps Physical Training Facility. The Terriers had numerous strong performances, including wins by
JaKayla Campbell (60m hurdles),
Cameron Dalton (200m),
Zion Bennett (400m),
Ellie Sawicki (shot put),
Sherika Christie (triple jump), and the women's 4x400 relay.
In the 60 meters,
Ella Tennant was second (7.67) and
Taylor Jennings-Ward was fifth (7.75) for the women. For the men.
Nigel Ransby was fifth in 6.97. Four Terriers advanced to the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles, with
JaKayla Campbell first in 8.78, followed by
Sherika Christie in second (8.89),
Olivia Bagg in sixth (9.09), and
Isabelle DuChemin in seventh (9.20).
Grant Witherspoon was third in the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.58.
Cameron Dalton won the men's 200 meters in 21.85, while
Ella Tennant was sixth (24.93) and
JaKayla Campbell was seventh (25.30) in the women's race.
The men's 400 meters was won by
Zion Bennett in 49.23, with
Thomas Stamper seventh in 50.61.
Taylor Jennings-Ward was second in the women's 400 meters and
Monic Green was sixth (59.72). In the women's 800 meters,
Dannielle King was second (2:16.81) and
Kristen Hallman (2:22.21) was sixth. The men's mile saw
Will Berger finish fifth in 4:28.77 for a personal best and
Andrew York eighth in 4:35.23. Berger added a third place in the 3,000 meters at 9:06.14 with
Liam Jones fourth (9:14.39).
Carolyne Shealy was fourth in the women's 3,000 meters in 11:13.89. The women's 4x400 relay team closed out the track events with a first-place finish in 3:54.13.
In the field events,
Jake Ross was fourth in the men's high jump at 1.89 meters and
Ava Cooper was third for the women in 1.58 meters.
Zico Bennett took third place in the men's long jump at 6.94 meters. In the women's long jump,
Olivia Bagg was second in 5.40 meters and
Isabelle DuChemin was seventh in 5.00 meters. The pole vault had
Joey Swick take third at 4.15 meters and
Andrew Botros in sixth at 3.70 meters for the men, while
Olivia Burroughs was second at 3.47 meters and
Pamela Ann Pope was fourth at 3.02 meters for the women.
The women's shot put was won by
Ellie Sawicki at 12.85 meters, with
Sherika Christie fourth (12.07m) and Danie Emmen seventh (10.83m). The women's triple jump saw
Sherika Christie at the top of the podium in 12.53 meters. For the men in the triple jump,
Patrick Green II was third at 13.74 meters. In the women's weight throw,
Ellie Sawicki was sixth (14.71m),
Dani Emmen was eighth (14.36m), and
Storm Owens was ninth (13.94m).
The meet featured nearly 20 teams, including Gardner-Webb, The Citadel, George Washington, VCU, and VMI.
Next Friday, the Terriers will compete in the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex, which is a change from the original schedule.
