Women Finish Second, Team Wins Three Titles at SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 2025 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded on Saturday at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility, with Wofford College winning three individual championships. The Wofford women were second overall with 119.5 points, while the men were sixth with 46 points.

Southern Conference titles were won by Sherika Christie (long jump and triple jump) and Olivia Bagg (pentathlon). Christie was named the Women's Most Outstanding Athlete for the second consecutive year. A Terrier has now received that honor four times in the last five years (Netanya Linares in 2021 and 2023).

The 119.5 points scored by the women were the third-most in school history and it is the fourth time in the last five years they have finished second in the SoCon. The men were sixth, and the 46 total points were the sixth-most in school history.

There were eleven All-Southern Conference honors earned by the Terriers: Olivia Bagg (pentathlon), Sherika Christie (long jump, high jump, triple jump, and 60m hurdles), Ella Tennant (60 meters, 200 meters), Nigel Ransby (60 meters), Patrick Green II (triple jump), Taylor Jennings-Ward (400 meters), and the women's 4x400 relay team.

Three school records were set during the championship. Terriers also earned a total of six All-Freshman Team honors during the weekend.

"That was a gutsy performance by our women today," said head coach Johnny Bomar. "Heading into the 4x400 relay we had to beat Furman in order to secure second place overall, and they did. Everyone stepped up their performance. Sherika Christie had another great meet for us and deserved to repeat as the Most Outstanding Athlete."

Sunday began with the completion of the heptathlon, with Jackson Casey finishing eighth with a career-high 3,590 points.

In the field events on Saturday, Dani Emmen was fourth in the women's weight throw at 15.43 meters to set a new school record. Ellie Sawicki was eighth at 14.06 meters in the weight throw. Jake Ross took fourth place in the men's high jump by clearing 1.88 meters. In the women's triple jump, Sherika Christie fouled on her first two attempts before qualifying for the finals on her third attempt. Ranked second heading into her last attempt in the finals, she went 12.41 meters to claim the title for the second straight year. In the men's triple jump, Patrick Green II was third with a distance of 13.92 meters and Preston Kut was seventh at 12.31 meters. The last field event to finish was the women's pole vault, where Olivia Burroughs was sixth by clearing 3.50 meters to tie a personal best.

The track events for the Terriers began on Saturday with the men's mile and Liam Jones ran a personal-best 4:19.51 to place seventh overall. In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Sherika Christie was second overall in 8.61 and JaKayla Campbell was fourth in 8.68. Grant Witherspoon was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles for the men with a time of 8.53. In the 60 meters, Ella Tennant took second place in 7.59 and Taylor Jennings-Ward was fifth in a personal-best 7.75. For the men, Nigel Ransby was third in a personal-best time of 6.90.

In the finals of the women's 400 meters, Taylor Jennings-Ward was third with a personal-best 56.28 and Tangela Green also set a personal best with a 56.53 to place fifth. In the finals of the women's 200 meters, Ella Tennant was third with a personal-best of 24.67 and JaKayla Campbell was fifth with a personal-best of 24.75. In the men's 200 meters, Cameron Dalton had a 22.18 to place fourth.
