Track and Field Begins Outdoor Season at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor season at the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center hosted by Charlotte. Wofford had numerous top ten finishes in the meet.
 
The decathlon and heptathlon began on Thursday and concluded on Friday. Isabelle DuChemin was sixth in the heptathlon with a personal best 3,840 points. Jackson Casey placed seventh in the decathlon with a personal-best 5,439 points.
 
In the track events on Friday, Sherika Christie was fourth in the women's 100-meter hurdles at 14.49. Taylor Jennings-Ward took sixth place in the women's 400 meters in 56.65. In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Andrew York was seventh in 10:07.98.
 
During the Saturday track events, Dannielle King was second in the women's 800 meters in a personal best time of 2:15.12. Liam Jones was tenth in the men's 800 meters in 1:55.49, a personal best. Will Berger added a ninth-place finish in the men's 3,000 meters at 9:14.39. In the 4x400 relay to end the day, the women were second in 3:53.40 and the men were eighth in 3:21.17.
 
In the field events, Jacob Ritchie was fourth in the javelin with a personal best of 52.45 meters. Sherika Christie was third in the long jump at 5.79 meters, with Olivia Bagg ninth at 5.44 meters. In group A of the women's pole vault, Olivia Burroughs was fourth at 3.56 meters. Ellie Sawicki was tenth in the discus with a throw of 37.77 meters. In group B of the men's pole vault, Andrew Botros was third with a personal best of 3.70 meters and then in group A Joey Swick was ninth at 4.30 meters. Ne'Rya Vassell took first place in group B of the women's high jump at 1.56 meters and Olivia Bagg was fifth in group A of the event at 1.61 meters.
 
The meet included over 35 teams. Division I schools participating were Charlotte, Cornell, Davidson, Duquesne, East Tennessee State, Furman, High Point, Mercer, Morgan State, N.C. State, Presbyterian, Queens, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, and Wofford.  
 
The Terriers will travel to Kennesaw State for the Don McGarey Invitational on March 28 and 29.
