Football Wraps Up Spring Practice

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team completed spring practice with a scripted scrimmage on Saturday morning. The practice was the last of fifteen sessions during March and April for the Terriers. The team continued to implement the base offense and defense and ended the practice with a two-minute drill.

After individual position group work, there was a short period of twelve plays that were highlighted by a 30-yard reception by Grant Tucker from J.T. Fayard. During a period of seven-on-seven focused on the red zone, Ivory Aikens had a 25-yard touchdown pass from J.T. Fayard. A special teams segment saw Bridger Jones and Devery Cagle make five-of-seven field goals, including a long of 47-yards.

During the first team segment, the offense had three first downs while Caimon Mathis had an interception and pass break-up. Kyle Parsons opened the second team segment with a 25-yard touchdown run. Cade Moledor had a tackle for loss. Kyle Parsons added a 20-yard run and Isaiah Scott capped the drive with a short touchdown reception. Grant Tucker added a first down reception from Ethan Drumm. In the two-minute drill, Ivory Aikens and Isaiah Scott had first downs before a 33-yard field goal by Devery Cagle ended the practice.

"I'm really pleased with the spring practices," said head coach Shawn Watson. "I love our football team. I think all across the country, we're all dealing with what would be a new roster just because of the craziness of the college athletic world, and it's across a lot of sports. We felt like we did a really good job of recruiting, and I really appreciate the effort by our outstanding staff.

"The three new quarterbacks have done a tremendous job," continued Watson. "Where they are today shows how far they have come. We have a better quarterback room than we've ever had here, and we've got three really good dudes, and they can all make plays. I think you'll see a really fast, physical football team in the fall, and we've got talent at the skill positions. I can't wait to get the freshmen here because they have some great speed as well."

The Southern Conference officials threw just two flags during the live plays.

The regular season will begin on Saturday, August 30, at South Carolina State. Season tickets are on sale now at www.woffordterriers.com/tickets.
