Sherika Christie from the Wofford College women's track and field team competed at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East preliminary competition held at the University of North Florida on Thursday afternoon.
Christie, a sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica, entered the long jump ranked 39
th in the region. She went 5.94 meters in her first attempt, 5.79 meters in her second attempt, and then 6.00 meters in the third attempt. Overall, she finished 19
th out of the 47 competitors to move up 20 spots.
Christie set the school record in the long jump at 6.15 meters earlier this season at the Bryan Clay Multi Event. She took first place in the long jump at the 2025 Southern Conference Outdoor Championship at 6.07 meters. Christie was named the Most Outstanding Female Field Performer and the Most Outstanding Athlete at the conclusion of the meet.
The top twelve qualifiers out of the two regions (24 total) will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon. The top qualifier in the East was Synclair Savage of Louisville at 6.64 meters.
This is the seventh straight season that the Terriers have advanced at least one participant to the NCAA East Preliminary.
