ASHEBORO, N.C. – The Wofford women's golf team concluded the two-day Tot Hill Farm Invitational Monday afternoon with a score of 602 to finish in fourth place as a team at the par-72 Tot Hill Farm Golf Club. The Terriers were led by the duo of
Sofia Pedrero and
Bella Kent, who both finished tied for 14
th.
The tournament was slated to start Monday, September 29, but was moved a day earlier to Sunday, September 28, to avoid the weather. However, the tournament was cut short on Tuesday before the third round due to rain in the area.
Wofford finished at 26-over par for the tournament. The Terriers started day one strong with a score of 299 in the first round. A 303 score in the second round on the final day held the Terriers to the fourth-place spot. The host College of Charleston was atop the leaderboard in the 13-team field. Charleston posted a 585 and had four finishers in the top ten. The Terriers shared the best par-4 scoring average in the event with Charleston at 4.21, and Wofford accumulated 106 pars, the fourth-highest total in the field. The Terriers also had the fourth-highest birdies, accumulating 22 in the first two rounds.
The duo of
Bella Kent and
Sofia Pedrero led the way for Wofford with both finishing in the top 20. Kent and Pedrero finished tied for 14
th with a 5-over 149. After a 78 in round one, Pedrero turned it around the next day with a 71, one-under par, to bring herself up 18 spots to finish 14
th. Pedrero tied for second-best on par-4 holes at 3.94 and in birdies with 7. Kent opened with a 75 before carding a 74 to finish the second round. Kent tied fourth-best par-4 scoring at an even 4.00.
Lilli Horn tied for 24
th with a 154. Horn recorded a 79 in the opening round but returned the next day to finish with a solid 75. With a par-3 scoring average of .290, she finished tied for third best in the event.
Delaney Wade opened with a solid 73 and ended the event with an 83. Wade checked in with a tie for 32
nd place with a score of 156. Rounding out the Terrier lineup was
Valeria Melo in her collegiate debut. The freshman scored 157 to place tied for 37
th with rounds of 73-84.
Wofford will return to action on October 13 and 14 as they host the Terrier Intercollegiate. The two-day event will take place at the Country Club of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
