REYNOLDS LAKE OCONEE, Georgia –The Wofford men's golf team completed play Sunday afternoon at the par-72 Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in the 20th Linger Longer Invitational. The three-day tournament started on Friday, March 20 with an 18-team field and a 108-player field, with six teams ranked in the top 50 nationally. The Terriers finished in 16th place with a team score of 903.
Wofford started the tournament carding a 297 on days one and two. The Terriers would finish with 309 on day three to place 16th. Georgia, ranked 11th in the nation, placed first with a 48-under 816. Georgia's Carter Loflin, ranked No. 116 in the nation, took first place in the player field with an 18-under 198. Wofford had the eighth best par five average during the tournament, sporting a 4.77 average. The Terriers also held the most eagles in the tournament with three.
Glover Amick was the top Terrier finishing tied for 57th with a five-over 221. Amick carded a 73 with an eagle on hole two to start day one. Amick return on day two to card even with another eagle. Amick finished the last round with a 76 to place 57th. Amick finished the tournament tied for the most eagles in two. Freshman Andrew Neal followed for Wofford with a 12-over 228 to place tied for 92nd. Neal carded 74-75-79 to end the tournament.
Andrew Aquino ended with a 13-over 229 to place tied for 94th. Aquino carded a 79 on day one before cutting it down to a 74 on day two. Aquino would finish the final day with a 76, including an eagle on hole six. Aquino had the fourth best par five average with a 4.33 during the tournament. Charles Warren finished with a 16-over 232 to finish tied for 98th. Warren carded 74-80-78 to end his run. Ben Jordan, the final Terrier competing as a team, ended with a 17-over 233 to place tied for 101st. Jordan carded 75-77-81.
Will Jones and Davis Neal competed in the tournament as individuals. Jones finished the tournament with a five-over 221 to place tied for 57th. Jones carded a 73 with an eagle on hole six to start day one. On day two, Jones scored a 76 before coming back in the final round to card even with his second eagle of the tournament. Jones joined Glover Amick with the most eagles in the tournament with two. Davis Neal finished the tournament with an 11-over 227 to place tied for 88th. Neal carded 75-73-79 with an eagle during the second round.
The Terriers will return to action on March 30 and 31 as they compete in The Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, North Carolina.
