WILMINGTON, N.C. –The Wofford men's golf team closed out play on Tuesday afternoon at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational held at the par-72 Country Club of Landfall. The Terriers finished in eighth place with a 17-over 881 score out of the 15-team field.
Charles Warren was the top finisher for Wofford with a three-over 219 to secure a tie for 26
th place.
Wofford started off the first 18 holes on Monday with a solid 280 but came back for round two to card a 300. The Terriers finished the final round on Tuesday with a 301 to place eighth. The 15-team field saw nationally ranked No. 26 Duke compete. The host UNC Wilmington won with an 18-under 846 for the second year in a row. The 15-team field included nationally ranked No. 26 Duke. UNCW's Gray Mitchum and Duke's No. 87 William Love shared first place with six-under 210 scores. Wofford had the fifth-best par-four average with 4.25 and the seventh-best par-five average with 4.72. The Terriers had the third most eagles with two and had the second most pars during the tournament with 168.
Charles Warren started day one carding a 74 before going into round two to sport a 71. Warren finished the tournament with a 74 to secure his tie for 26
th place with a three-over 219. Freshman
Andrew Neal finished the tournament in a tie for 35
th after carding 72-75-74. Neal finished with a five-over 221.
Glover Amick started round one with an eagle on hole 17 to card a 69, tying his career low. Amick would finish with a 79 and card a 74 in the final round to place a tie for 49
th. Amick finished with an eight-over 224 score.
Andrew Aquino and
Will Jones finished the tournament in a tie for 68
th place with a 13-over 229. Aquino opened the first round with an eagle on hole 17 to card a new career low of 68. Aquino would end day one with an 84 before returning to the final round to card a 77. Aquino finished with the ninth-most pars with 35. Jones opened round one with a 71 before carding a 75 to end the first day of play. Jones returned to the final round to card an 83.
Jack West was the only Terrier to compete as an individual during the tournament. West finished with a 34-over 250 score (79-87-84).
The Terriers will be back on Sunday, April 12, as they host the three-day Wofford Invitational at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
