SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College softball team held an early lead against UNCG but could not hold on in an 8-6 setback on Sunday afternoon at Hope Field. The Terriers led 6-0 heading into the sixth inning. Wofford falls to 27-12 with a 5-7 record in conference play.

Natalya Salo got the start in the series finale, pitching 5.0 innings. Salo allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five batters.
Abby Greenwood suffered the loss, pitching one inning.
Sydney Baker closed the game out after allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout.
Kate Platte paced the offense with a 2-of-4 appearance at the plate while scoring two runs.
Addison Lucier tallied two doubles in the leadoff spot, and
Brianna Stanley went a perfect 2-of-2 with an RBI and two walks.
Gracie Parker batted 2-of-3 with an RBI as well.
Desirae Devine posted a team-high two RBI with a triple to left center.
Rivers Sampson and
Kaytlin Greenwood also recorded an RBI apiece.
Kaytlin Greenwood led the team with one stolen base. Wofford out hit UNCG 12-8. The Spartans finished with one error while Wofford had two.

It was a fast start for the Terriers, as the team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Addison Lucier doubled to right center to start the game, and
Kate Platte followed that up with a single to center field.
Brianna Stanley drove in Lucier with a single of her own. A couple of at bats later,
Gracie Parker sent Platte home with a bunt to give Wofford a two-run advantage. UNCG had a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second after Salo struck out two batters. Wofford added another run in the bottom half of the frame, with
Kate Platte doubling to right field to get in scoring position. After
Brianna Stanley was intentionally walked,
Rivers Sampson doubled down the left field line to score Platte and put Wofford up 3-0.

After three more scoreless innings from UNCG, Wofford scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the team up 6-0.
Brianna Stanley started the inning with a single, with
Madison Thieke pinch running for Stanley.
Kate Platte walked after that, advancing Thieke to second. A few at bats later,
Desirae Devine tripled to left center to send home Platte and Thieke.
Kaytlin Greenwood followed that up with a double to drive in Devine and put the Terriers up 6-0. UNCG responded, however, scoring seven runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead. The Spartans hit two homers in the frame. In the bottom of the sixth,
Addison Lucier started the inning with her second double of the game.
Brianna Stanley walked after that, leading to a single up the middle for
Gracie Parker. Lucier was thrown out at home, however, ending the sixth inning. UNCG hit its third home run of the game to stretch its lead out to 8-6 in the seventh. Wofford was unable to complete the comeback in the final frame, suffering an 8-6 loss in the series finale.

Wofford will take a short trip to USC Upstate on Wednesday, April 15, for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch. The team will then travel to ETSU for a weekend series on April 18-19.
