SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College softball team lost 6-2 on the road at USC Upstate on Wednesday evening. The Terriers cut the deficit to one run in the fifth inning, but USC Upstate responded with three runs in the sixth to keep Wofford away. Wofford falls to 27-13 on the season.

Margaret Axelson got the start, throwing for 3.0 innings as the senior hurler drops to 7-7 on the season. Axelson allowed three runs on six hits.
Maddie Berry made her fifth appearance of the season, tossing 2.1 innings with two runs on four hits.
Sydney Baker pitched the final third inning of the game.
Brianna Stanley and
Gracie Parker led the team with an RBI single apiece.

The Terriers got on the board quickly, as
Kate Platte opened the game up with a single up the middle. After advancing to second,
Brianna Stanley drove in Platte to give the team a 1-0 lead early on. USC Upstate responded in the second inning, however, as the Spartans added three runs to regain a 3-1 lead – all of which were scored with two outs. Both teams were scoreless for the next two innings, but Wofford narrowed the Spartan lead to one run after a score in the fifth.
Rivers Sampson singled to right field to open the frame, and
Gracie Parker would eventually send Sampson home with another single to right field. The Terriers would enter the sixth inning trailing 3-2. USC Upstate scored three more runs in the sixth inning to seal the game, however. Wofford would fall 6-2.

The Terriers will be on the road this weekend with a trip to ETSU on April 18-19.
