JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – The Wofford College softball team fell 8-6 in game one of the series against ETSU on Friday afternoon in Johnson City. The Terriers led 4-0 in the third inning but four errors led to an ETSU comeback. Wofford falls to 27-14 with a 5-8 record in conference play.

Natalya Salo started the game with 3.1 innings pitched, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out three batters. Salo drops to 7-3 on the season with the loss. Maddie Berry tossed 1.2 innings after that, allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout. Sydney Baker pitched the final inning. Baker allowed one hit and no runs. Brianna Stanley led the offensive attack with a 2-of-3 performance at the plate with four RBI, including a three-run homer and a double. Kalli Petty also went 2-of-3 after hitting her second homer of the season. Abbi Campbell tallied one hit with two runs scored. The Terriers out hit ETSU 9-8 but had four errors compared to one from the Bucs.

After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, Kalli Petty blasted her second homer of the season to put Wofford up 1-0 in the second inning. ETSU had a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the second, leading to three more runs scored in the third to put Wofford up 4-0. Abbi Campbell walked to start the inning, and Addison Lucier singled through the right side on the next at bat. Brianna Stanley followed that up with her 11th homer of the season. The three-run shot to left field gave Wofford a four-run advantage.

ETSU responded, however, scoring three runs to shorten the deficit to one score, 4-3. The Terriers added a run in the top of the fourth, with Abbi Campbell scoring off a throwing error by the ETSU catcher. Three more runs from the Bucs in the bottom of the fourth gave ETSU a 6-5 lead. ETSU scored two more runs in the fifth to stretch its advantage to three runs, 8-5. Wofford threatened in the top of the seventh, as Kate Platte doubled to left field with one out. Brianna Stanley drove in Platte with a double of her own to make the game 8-6. Back-to-back fly outs ended the game, however, with Wofford losing 8-6.
