Brooke Meltcher Tabbed Big South Defensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford Defense Brooke Meltcher has been named the Big South Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, for games played April 19 - April 26, as announced today by the league office. High Point's Reese Dowgiallo earned Offensive Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb's Maddie Treadway earned Freshman of the Week.

Meltcher, a junior from Wading River, New York, picked up seven ground balls against Mercer in their midweek matchup. Her defense also caused three turnovers against the Bears, who lead the conference with the fewest turnovers per game. She turned around to provide a pivotal performance in the final regular season game at Radford, grabbing three ground games and causing one turnover. She sits first nationally for ground balls per game with 4.94.

This is the seventh Player of the Week award this season for the Terriers, and Meltcher's third honor this season. This ties the most weekly honors in a season by the Terriers set in 2024.

Wofford (8-9, 6-2) will host No. 6 Longwood in Gibbs Stadium for the quarterfinals of the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championships. The Terriers and the Lancers will have opening draw at 7 p.m. on April 28. The winner will advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 High Point in Macon, Ga. On Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m. All games will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
