HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the VertKlasse Meeting on Thursday and Friday hosted by High Point at Vert Stadium. Wofford had numerous top ten finishes and personal bests in the meet, along with school records in the men's 800 meters by
Liam Jones and the women's 4x400 relay team.
On Thursday,
Gianna Ortiz was ninth in the women's javelin with a personal best of 38.13 meters. In the women's long jump,
Sherika Christie was ninth at 5.83 meters. In group B of the women's high jump, Ne'Rya Russell was second with a personal best of 1.57 meters. For the men in the long jump,
Patrick Green II was tenth at 6.52 meters.
Olivia Burroughs was third in group B of the women's pole vault at 3.66 meters.
To begin the running events on Friday,
Sarah Turner was sixth in the 800 meters at 2:18.42 and
Ella Tennant was sixth in the 100 meters at 12.17.
Thomas Stamper was tenth in the men's 400 meters at 48.78. In the 100-meter hurdles,
Olivia Bagg was third at 14.24 and
Isabelle DuChemin was seventh at 14.52. DuChemin added a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:04.03.
Zico Bennett was sixth in the men's 200 meters at 21.57. In the women's 400 meters,
Taylor Jennings-Ward was third with a personal best time of 54.91. The women's 4x100 relay team was tenth in 48.10.
Sherika Christie was fifth in the 100-meter hurdle finals.
Liam Jones set a personal best and a school record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.57, with the previous school record of 1:51.74 set in 2006 by Joe Harbacevich. The women's 4x400 relay team of
Monic Green,
JaKayla Campbell,
Sofia LaCorte and
Taylor Jennings-Ward was third in a school record time of 3:43.28, lowering the mark of 3:45.57 set last season.
The meet included nearly 50 schools, including Campbell, Charlotte, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, East Tennessee State, Gardner-Webb, James Madison, Ohio State, North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, and Winthrop.
The Terriers will compete next at the Asheville Bulldog Invite on April 10 and 11 at UNC Asheville.
