Women’s Soccer Falls To Richmond In Sunday Showdown

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford College women's soccer team fell to the University of Richmond, 0-1, after an early goal from the Spiders at President's Field on Sunday afternoon.  
 

First Half  

The Terriers and the Spiders had a tight start, with an even split on possession in the beginning of the first half. Wofford had an opportunity in the 26th minute with a corner kick taken by Annie Andrews but was unable to capitalize.  

At 21:32, Richmond broke the draw with a goal from a shot into the bottom right by Jess Moylan. 

Richmond continued the pressure, dominating possession for the rest of the half, ending the first half with a 1-0 advantage.  

Second Half

Going into the second half, both teams continued to battle for possession. Wofford had two close chances to score early in the half with a blocked shot from freshman Layla Washington at 48:10 and a shot from Julia Grier at 53:37 that was saved by Seifert.

A late yellow card on Richmond's Alden gave Wofford another opportunity to score with a shot from Ella Jahromi that was off target.

Another yellow card was issued to Wofford's Delaney Minor with 53 seconds left.  

Wofford continued to find opportunities with a shot by Maya Lake in the last five seconds but were unable to convert, ending the 90 minutes at 0-1. Wofford keeper Elizabeth Navola had five saves on six shots on goal.
