SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford women's soccer team ended in a 1-1 tie against Western Carolina, with the Catamounts making a late-stage comeback with a goal in the 85
th minute on Friday night at Snyder Field.
First Half
The Terriers and the Catamounts went back-and-forth in the beginning with Wofford mostly controlling the possession. Both teams had scoring opportunities in the early minutes of the game but were called offsides.
Wofford continued to add offensive pressure to Western Carolina, which led the Terriers to a goal at the 30-minute mark with a header from
Julia Grier, her first of the season, off a corner kick from
Brooke Moody.
The Terriers continued to up the ante on pressure, ending the first half with possession in the offense zone, 1-0.
Second Half
Western Carolina came into the second half controlling the game after finding their footing, with nine shots and six corner kicks in the second half. In the final minutes of the match, Caroline Simpkins puts it past
Elizabeth Navola top shelf from outside of box, evening up to 1-1.
The Terriers and the Catamounts continued to fight for possession in the last minutes, but both teams were unable to break the draw, ending the 90 minutes at 1-1.
