Phil Disher Named Head Coach of the Forest City Owls

FOREST CITY, N.C. – The Forest City Owls Baseball Club named Phil Disher as the new Head Coach of the Owls. Disher currently serves as an assistant coach at Wofford College.

“It’s an honor to be associated with the team, staff, and fan base of such a top notch organization,” said Disher. “ I am both flattered and excited to be given the opportunity to carry on the winning tradition that the Owl’s have become so well known for and cannot wait to start another stellar season in Forest City.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring Phil Disher on board as the next Owls Head Coach,” said General Manager Jeremy Boler. “After conducting a national search it was obvious to us that Phil’s pedigree was second to none. We feel he will bring a tremendous level of leadership and experience to the position in addition to great players that will help continue the great tradition of Forest City Owls baseball.”

Phil Disher is entering his second year as an Assistant Coach at Wofford College. He will work with primarily the catchers and hitters during the season as well as assisting with recruiting. He recently finished playing professionally with the Houston Astros organization where he was forced to retire due to an injury.

During his four year career at South Carolina he was named All-SEC during his junior and senior seasons while being named to the Division I All-American team for the 2007 season. While his teams made several post season appearances, he was named to two NCAA All-Regional teams as well as two All-SEC tournament teams while being named the MVP of the 2007 Virginia Regional.

He was drafted following the 2007 season by the Giants in the 45th round and then drafted again in 2008 in the 15th round where he signed with Houston. During his first year of pro ball he was named the MVP of the New York-Penn league.

Disher was a graduate of South Aiken High School where he was first team All-State both his junior and senior seasons. He received his degree from the University of South Carolina in exercise science. Disher and his wife, Christie, reside in Greenville.
