Wofford drops home match against Davidson

Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford volleyball fell 3-1 to league opponent Davidson Tuesday night in Benjamin Johnson Arena.

The Wildcats (7-16, 2-8 SoCon) dominated game one with an 11 point win. Senior Katie Pierucci collected five kills and 12 total attacks to lead Davidson to the 30-19 game victory. In game two sophomore Lindsey Richardson’s four kills and seven total attacks paced the Terriers (8-14, 2-8 SoCon) to the win by a score of 30-24. The Wildcats claimed a competitive game three before crowning themselves match victors in an equally competitive fourth game by the same score of 30-28.

Freshman Jorden Benedict finished with a match high .643 hitting percentage from 10 kills, one error and 14 total attacks. Other top offensive performances for Davidson included Pierucci who collected 15 kills and 47 total attacks and junior Kittery Neale who led the match in kills with 19.

Freshman Hayley Lawson paced the match with 58 assists.

Davidson ended the night with four players accumulating double digits digs. Freshman Jennifer Chamblee led the team with 15 digs, while Pierucci finished with 14, senior Lindsey Woeste had 13 and Lawson collected 10.

Freshman Stacy Byrd paced Wofford’s offense with 11 kills and 34 total attacks, followed by Richardson’s nine kills and 28 total attacks.

Sophomore Joann Suddath collected a team best 28 assists.

Sophomore Sarah Palmer led the match with 16 digs, while Byrd also reached double digits with 11.

Wofford returns home for action Saturday in Benjamin Johnson Arena to host Winston-Salem State in a 6 p.m. match.
