SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards today, and Wofford's
Laney Klika was tabbed as the defensive player of the week. Selections are made by the league office.

This is the second-straight week Wofford has had a player selected, with
Chloe Smith earning offensive player of the week last week. This is Klika's first honor of the season and the fourth of her career.

Klika, a senior libero from Novelty, Ohio, averaged a league-best 5.40 digs per set as the team went 3-1 last week. She was the only player to average more than 4.7 digs per set in the SoCon. Klika opened the week with 21 digs and eight assists in a 3-1 win over Presbyterian. She followed that up with 15 assists in a 3-0 sweep against Charlotte. In a five-set loss to N.C. State, Klika went for 21 digs. She closed out the Summit Hospitality Tournament with 24 digs in just three sets as the team swept George Washington. She was named to the Summit Hospitality All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

Klika currently ranks fourth in the nation and first in the SoCon with 5.41 digs per set this season. Her total of 119 digs is also a SoCon best and ranks seventh in the nation.

Wofford has a busy week at home as the team will host three matches inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Terriers will welcome Coastal Carolina on Thursday, September 10, at 6:00 p.m. That is followed by South Carolina on Saturday, September 12, at 4:00 p.m. and Clemson Sunday, September 13, at 3:00 p.m. All games can be streamed live on ESPN+.
