ELON, N.C. – Host Elon opened the second half by scoring the first 12 points to pull away from a close contest at halftime for a 59-47 Southern Conference victory over Wofford Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Gym in Elon, N.C., in the regular-season finale for both schools.

The Phoenix mounted a 12-0 run to open the second half with Shashonna Moore netting four points and Tierra Bumbrey knocking down a 3-pointer at 15:54. Junior Laura Depko halted the Elon (11-19, 6-12 SoCon) surge with a jumper at 14:03, which preceded three-straight layups by senior Kelsi Koenig.

The lead hovered around 15 points for much of the session with the Terriers able to pull within 13 on four occasions. Koenig converted another layup at 1:07, cutting the gap to 12, 57-45. Koenig added another short-range bucket for the final margin.

Wofford’s defense enabled it to get back into the game during the first half. The Terriers saw the deficit grow to as high as 12, 25-13, on a Katie Whidden jumper at 5:29 forcing a timeout. Wofford then responded by netting the final six points of the period, including sophomore Kelly Dwyer banking in a jumper near the foul line at 2:55 for the first Terrier points since freshman Ashley Kroker drilled a 3-pointer at 10:43.

Freshman Mahagony Williams and Depko also hit shots before the intermission pulling Wofford (9-20, 2-16 SoCon) within six, 25-19.

Junior Liz Miller opened the first half by scoring six of the Terriers’ first 10 points. She also became the school’s single-season record holder with three steals during the first 20 minutes before finishing the game with four to increase her season total to 93, passing the 90 set by Libby Corry in 1993-94. Miller also stands behind Corry on the career chart. She now has 249 and needs just 35 to pass Corry’s 283 from 1991-95.

Koenig finished as the game’s leading scorer, pouring in a dozen and raising her career tally to 924. She now has the 12th most points in Wofford history, posting 924 and passing Nakia Mister (2002-06), who had 915.

Miller added 10 to go with her eight rebounds, five assists and four steals in a stat-stuffed 37 minutes.

Williams registered eight points and eight rebounds to go along with a career-high tying six blocked shots.

A trio of Phoenix notched a team-high 10 points. Bumbrey and Whidden joined Amber Wall for the scoring honors. Bumbrey grabbed a team-best seven caroms in closing out her home career.

Wofford will enter the Southern Conference Tournament as the No. 10 seed, facing Furman, the No. 7 seed, at 3 p.m. Thursday in the event’s first game at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C. Elon clinched the No. 6 seed and an opening-round bye with the victory.
