Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Emily London led three players in double-digit scoring with 18 points to lift the Samford Bulldogs to an 81-60 win over Wofford Monday.
Samford opened the game with a 12-2 run, and Wofford was never able to recover from the early deficit. The Bulldogs attacked primarily from behind the three-point line, with 10 treys in the first half, including five from leading scorer London. London propelled Samford to an 18-point lead heading into half time.
In the second half, Wofford matched the Bulldogs’ intensity, scoring 31 points to Samford’s 34, but could not overcome the deficit from the first half. The Terriers defense went to work in the second half, holding the Bulldogs scoreless from the 19-minute mark until a three-pointer from Monica Maxwell broke the dry spell at 13 minutes remaining.
The Wofford defense also managed to hold leading scorer London to only three points in the second half, while also containing Maxwell. Sophomore Mahagony Williams led the Terriers in the second half with 10 points.
London led the Bulldogs with 18 total points, all from beyond the arc. Maxwell added 16, and senior Chika Okoli contributed 10 in the win. Sophomore Savannah Hill led Samford with eight total rebounds.
Sophomore Williams and freshman April Moorhouse led the Terriers with 12 points apiece, while Williams also grabbed eight rebounds for Wofford. The Terriers matched the Bulldogs in rebounds with 33.
With the win, Samford remains atop the Southern Conference with a 16-3 overall record and a 11-1 conference mark. Wofford falls to 3-16 on the season and 1-10 in league play. The Terriers return home to host Davidson on Saturday, January 31 in a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
