Wofford vs. Georgia Southern Box Score
STATESBORO, Ga. – The Wofford volleyball team fell in three sets to Georgia Southern in Southern Conference action on Saturday night.
The first set saw 12 ties, but even with the tight score, the Terriers were able to maintain a slight lead for the majority of the set. It wasn’t until the Eagles notched two straight kills late in the set that they were able to tie the score at 25 and take a 26-25 lead. A Terrier kill evened the score at 26, but the Eagles answered with another two kills to take the first set 28-26.
Georgia Southern pulled out to an early 8-2 lead behind a strong offensive push early in the second set. The Eagles were able to maintain the lead for the entire set, claiming a 25-22 victory.
The two teams battled again in the third set, which saw 10 ties and four lead changes. After a 15-15 tie, the Eagles rallied behind strong serving from Ashleigh Wienbarg to record a 10-1 run, taking the third and final set by a score of 25-16.
The Eagles were led by outside hitter Bethany Sanford’s 14 kills, while Danielle Graham contributed 11 and a .714 attack percentage and Parker Small added 10 kills. Libero Cristin Haines led the defense with 18 digs.
Senior Shanna Hughes led the Terriers with 10 kills and added seven digs. Setter Joanna Suddath paced the team with 27 assists, and libero Sarah Palmer notched nine defensive saves in the loss.
With the loss, Wofford falls to 17-11 overall and 4-8 in the Southern Conference while Georgia Southern improves to 18-9 overall and 8-4 in league play. The Terriers will travel to Elon on November 7 for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Phoenix.
